Malaysia finished top of the SEA Games 2025 bowling medal table with two gold, one silver and four bronze medals. The bowling ran from 14 to 19 December 2025 at Blu-O Rhythm & Bowl, Major Cineplex Ratchayothin, in Bangkok. Singapore also won two golds, but Malaysia's extra silver kept them in first place.
Malaysia's medals at the SEA Games 2025 bowling event
The first gold came on 16 December. Rafiq Ismail and Syazirol Shamsudin won the men's doubles with 470 pins. Thailand's Lapasdanai Chusaeng and Vilinkorn Kledkaew scored 435. Then the women's team of four closed the week with a second gold, beating Indonesia in the final.
| Event | Medal | Malaysian bowlers |
|---|---|---|
| Men's doubles | Gold | Rafiq Ismail, Syazirol Shamsudin |
| Women's team of four | Gold | Nur Hazirah Ramli, Adania Redzwan, Sin Li Jane, Natasha Roslan |
| Women's singles | Silver | Natasha Roslan |
| Men's singles | Bronze | Syazirol Shamsudin |
| Men's doubles | Bronze | Tun Ameerul Al-Hakim, Tsen Fan Yew |
| Women's doubles | Bronze | Nur Hazirah Ramli, Adania Redzwan |
| Men's team of four | Bronze | Malaysia |
In the women's team, Sin Li Jane and Natasha Roslan joined Nur Hazirah Ramli and Adania Redzwan. Natasha also took silver in the singles, behind Singapore's Charmaine Chang Yu Qian. Meanwhile Tun Hakim and debutant Tsen Fan Yew added a doubles bronze.
A new format caused trouble
The singles used a new format. Only two bowlers per nation could reach the knockouts. As a result, strong qualifiers from big teams were cut, while lower scorers from other countries went through.
Malaysia's men filled the top three places in qualifying. Rafiq led with 1,383 over six games, Syazirol had 1,340 and Tsen Fan Yew 1,302, the NST reported. Even so, Rafiq lost his quarter-final 266-215 to Mark Jesus San Jose of the Philippines. Syazirol then lost his semi-final to Thailand's Napat Buspanikonkul by a single pin, 211-210. In addition, a pairing error in that round went unnoticed until the seventh frame, so officials restarted the match.
Vietnam's Tran Hoang Khoi won the men's singles gold. Later, the Philippines won the men's team event, with Thailand second.
What it means for Malaysian bowling
Topping the SEA Games 2025 bowling table matters because the next Games come home. The 2027 SEA Games bowling will take place at Megalanes in Batu Kawa, Kuching. So the result gives the national squad a clear benchmark two years out.
Most of these medallists went on to strong 2026 seasons, too. For the full calendar, see our bowling competitions in Malaysia page, browse more Malaysian bowling news, or read about the players on our athletes hub.
