Brunswick bowling balls: the oldest name, explained

House balls with finger holes on a rack; entry Brunswick bowling balls such as the TZone look similar

Brunswick bowling balls come from the oldest company in the sport, and in Malaysia you buy them through X Proshop, Brunswick's official distributor for Southeast Asia. The range runs from the plastic TZone at RM360 to performance balls near RM1,000 (X Proshop web store, October 2026). Brunswick also owns Hammer, Ebonite, Track, DV8 and Radical, so its reach is wider than the name on one ball.

A 180-year-old company with a new owner

John Brunswick started the business in 1845, making billiard tables. Bowling came later, in the 1880s. For most of the 20th century, Brunswick built pinsetters, lanes and balls for centres worldwide. Many Malaysian centres still run Brunswick equipment today.

The modern company looks different, though. Brunswick Corporation sold its bowling arm to BlueArc Capital Management in 2015. Then, in November 2019, Brunswick Bowling bought the assets and patents of Ebonite International. As a result, it gained Ebonite, Hammer, Track and Columbia 300 in one deal. Brunswick retired Columbia 300 in 2026. Its research team works in Muskegon, Michigan, while the factory sits in Hungary.

Brunswick's sister brands

When you shop the Brunswick group, you're really choosing between several brands with different personalities:

  • Hammer: urethane roots and the Black Widow line.
  • Ebonite: Game Breaker and Turbo balls, often good value.
  • Track, DV8 and Radical: performance balls, mostly around RM900 to RM1,050 here.

How Brunswick sorts its balls

Brunswick's site groups current balls into four price tiers. It also tags each ball with a shape of reaction, such as "accurate", "all purpose", "flip" or "traction". That second label is handy, because it tells you how the ball moves rather than only how strong it is.

Brunswick bowling balls on sale in Malaysia

X Proshop's web store listed these Brunswick models on 16 October 2026. Notice that the local list leans towards entry balls:

  • TZone: RM360, 6 to 15 lb. A plastic ball for beginners and spares.
  • Twist: RM550, 8 to 15 lb. Easy length and a controllable backend on drier lanes.
  • Rhino: RM650, 10 to 15 lb. Aimed at first-time reactive buyers.
  • Ethos Solid: RM980, 12 to 15 lb. The strongest Brunswick ball on the site that day.

Pro-tier balls like the Strategy weren't on the web store when we checked. So if you want one, ask X Proshop whether it can order it. Also, X Proshop still listed a Columbia 300 White Dot at RM360. That's a fine plastic ball, but the brand is retired, so don't expect a replacement later.

Local tip

Sunway Megalanes sells a RM560 starter pack with a TZone, a single tote and beginner shoes, drilling included. It's a Storm shop, but this bundle uses a Brunswick ball.

Who should pick Brunswick?

Brunswick suits two groups best. First, new bowlers who want a cheap, reliable first ball. Second, bowlers who like the Brunswick group's wider family and want to mix Hammer or Ebonite balls in the same bag. On the downside, the local web store had few high-end Brunswick bowling balls, so serious tournament players may find more choice in Storm's range.

Frequently asked questions

Are Brunswick bowling balls good?

Yes. Brunswick sells everything from plastic house-style balls to pro-level asymmetric balls, and its gear is standard kit in centres around the world. Its strength in Malaysia is the cheap end: the TZone and Rhino are some of the best-value first balls on sale. The trade-off is that the high-end range here is thinner than Storm's, at least on the X Proshop web store.

Where can I buy Brunswick bowling balls in Malaysia?

X Proshop, run by JNJ Distribution in Subang Jaya, is Brunswick's exclusive consumer products distributor for Southeast Asia. It sells online with 2–5 working day delivery and through its own pro shop counters. Some Storm VIP shops also carry the TZone in starter packs. Check our pro shop list for one near you.

Which Brunswick bowling ball is best for beginners?

Start with the TZone (RM360) if you bowl straight, or the Rhino (RM650) if you want to learn to hook. Brunswick aims the Rhino at first-time reactive buyers, so it grips the lane more than plastic but stays easy to read. Sunway's RM560 starter pack bundles a TZone with a bag and shoes, with free drilling included.

Who makes Brunswick bowling balls?

Brunswick Bowling Products, based in Muskegon, Michigan. Its research and development team works there, while its factory is in Hungary. BlueArc Capital Management has owned the bowling business since 2015. The same company now makes Hammer, Ebonite, Track, DV8 and Radical balls.

What is the difference between the Brunswick TZone and Twist?

The TZone is a polyester (plastic) ball, so it goes nearly straight. That makes it a good spare ball. The Twist (RM550 at X Proshop in 2026) is built to hook. Its listing promises easy length and a strong but controllable backend on drier lanes. So think of the Twist as a step between plastic and a ball like the Rhino, which Brunswick pitches at first-time reactive buyers.
